Humility and Gratitude

Opening Doors to Abundant Blessings:

Lessons in Humility and Gratitude from King Solomon and Everyday Life

Young King Solomon, upon ascending the throne of Israel, displayed remarkable humility and wisdom. In his desire to lead with a grateful heart, he approached God with a sincere request for the best gift—humility (1 Kings 3:9-10). This act of humility deeply pleased God, leading Him to grant Solomon not only humility but also an abundance of blessings beyond his expectations (1 Kings 3:13).

Solomon's life serves as a vivid example of how practicing gratitude and humility can open the doors to God's abundant provision. Let us consider some true-to-life examples and experiences that reflect the significance of humility and a grateful heart.

Imagine a person who, in the face of adversity, maintains an attitude of gratitude. Instead of dwelling on the challenges they face, they choose to focus on the blessings they still possess—a loving family, supportive friends, and good health. Their gratitude not only strengthens their own spirit but also inspires those around them. As a result, they find themselves surrounded by an outpouring of love, encouragement, and unexpected opportunities.

Consider a community ravaged by a natural disaster, where the residents, despite losing their homes and possessions, come together to support one another. Their humble gratitude for the safety of their loved ones and the unity they experience allows them to rebuild with resilience and hope. In response to their humility and thankfulness, generous individuals and organizations offer assistance, resources, and guidance to aid in the recovery and restoration process.

Reflect on a person who approaches their relationship with God with genuine humility, recognizing their dependence on Him. In their prayers, they express gratitude for His love, grace, and daily provisions. Rather than solely seeking material possessions or personal gain, their requests focus on wisdom, guidance, and a heart aligned with God's will. Such humility and gratitude draw them closer to God, and He, in turn, bestows upon them an overflow of blessings—inner peace, spiritual growth, and a deep sense of purpose.

Indeed, our loving Heavenly Father delights in showering His children with gifts and blessings. When we approach Him with humility and a grateful heart, our relationship with Him flourishes. He not only meets our needs but exceeds our expectations, filling our lives with joy, love, and abundance. By cultivating a spirit of gratitude, we invite divine favor and experience the fullness of God's goodness.

Let us, like King Solomon, aspire to approach God with humility and gratitude. In doing so, we will witness the transformative power of thankfulness and the overwhelming blessings that flow from a heart that is truly grateful.

Anticipation Builds: How These Iconic Harry Potter Characters Will Shape the Future of the Wizarding World in the Upcoming HBO Max Series

With a new Harry Potter series set to hit HBO Max soon, it's the perfect time to revisit some of the most powerful and memorable characters from the beloved franchise. From heroes to villains, these characters have captured the hearts and imaginations of fans around the world. We'll take a closer look at some of the most powerful characters in the Harry Potter universe, and explore what makes them so compelling.

First up on my list is Bellatrix Lestrange, one of the most notorious Death Eaters and loyal followers of Lord Voldemort. Bellatrix is a powerful witch with an unwavering dedication to her dark lord. Her fierce loyalty and unbridled passion for the dark arts make her a formidable adversary for Harry and his friends. Despite her cruel nature, Bellatrix is undeniably captivating, and her fierce determination is something to be admired.

Next, we have Ron, Hermione, and McGonagall. These characters are all powerful in their own right. Ron may not have the same level of magical prowess as his friends, but he makes up for it with his loyalty and bravery. Hermione is an intelligent and resourceful witch who is never afraid to stand up for what is right. And of course, there's McGonagall, the stern but fair head of Gryffindor house. Her years of experience and wisdom make her a powerful ally for Harry and his friends.

No discussion of powerful Harry Potter characters would be complete without mentioning Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. Dumbledore is a wise and powerful wizard who always seems to be one step ahead of everyone else. His vast knowledge of magic and his unwavering dedication to defeating Voldemort make him a formidable opponent. But what makes Dumbledore truly powerful is his compassion and kindness, which inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have Malfoy, one of the most notorious villains in the Harry Potter universe. Malfoy is a cunning and manipulative wizard who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. His powerful family connections and his deep knowledge of the dark arts make him a dangerous adversary for Harry and his friends. Despite his villainous nature, Malfoy is a fascinating character, and his complex motivations make him more than just a one-dimensional villain.

Sirius Black is another powerful character who deserves a mention. He's a loyal friend to Harry's father, and his own godfather. His years spent in Azkaban prison have only made him more determined to fight against Voldemort and his followers. Sirius is a skilled wizard and a loyal ally to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. His tragic past and his unwavering dedication to his loved ones make him a truly powerful character.

Snape is another character who is often seen as a villain but who is much more complex than that. He's a skilled wizard and a dedicated teacher, but his true loyalties are never clear until the very end. Snape's troubled past and his complicated relationship with Harry's mother make him a fascinating and powerful character. His tragic end only serves to underscore the complexity of his character and the impact he had on the story.

Moody is a grizzled old Auror who has seen it all. His years of experience and his deep knowledge of the dark arts make him a powerful ally for Harry and his friends. Despite his tough exterior, Moody has a soft spot for those who fight against evil, and his dedication to the cause is unwavering.

Finally, there's Grindelwald and Voldemort, two of the most powerful and feared wizards in the Harry Potter universe. Grindelwald is a dark wizard who is obsessed with power and domination.

The Harry Potter franchise is filled with powerful and complex characters whose stories continue to captivate audiences around the world. From Bellatrix Lestrange to Gellert Grindelwald, these characters serve as a reminder of the dangers and the potential of magic. As we look forward to the upcoming HBO Max series, we can't wait to see how these characters will continue to shape the wizarding world.

Salamisim: Exploring the Depths of a Filipino Historical Romance Novel

Despite the sweltering heat, I discovered a tranquil retreat at the back of my house, surrounded by majestic mahogany trees, where I delved into Part 2 – Ang Pagtatapos of Binibining Mia's Salamisim, finding solace in the pages of this captivating fictional novel.

Salamisim, a novel by Binibining Mia, is a Filipino historical romance that takes the readers on a thrilling ride through a fictional world that is both fascinating and intricate. The novel is an excellent blend of historical fiction, romance, and fantasy, and it offers a unique perspective on the power of storytelling.

At the heart of the story is Faye, the female protagonist who is also the author of the book "Salamisim." Faye's character is strong, complex, and relatable, and readers are drawn to her from the very beginning. Mia has done an excellent job of bringing her to life and making her a compelling figure. As Faye navigates her way through the world she has created, she encounters characters that she has invented and grows fond of them. The conflict of the novel becomes more complex as she tries to enter the scenes and save the characters.

The story's setting in the time of Spanish colonization adds depth and richness to the plot. The detailed descriptions of the era and the accurate historical facts incorporated in the novel are a testament to Mia's research and writing skills.

The love interests, Sebastian Guerrero and Leandro, add a layer of complexity to the story. Their personalities are distinct, and their interactions with Faye are fascinating to read. The second female heroine, Maria Florencita, represents the traditional Filipina of the 1800s and is a perfect contrast to Faye's modern and impulsive character.

The antagonist of the novel, Roberto, adds a sinister touch to the plot. His character is well-developed and is an excellent foil for the other characters. The conflict between Roberto and General Guerrero is intense, and it keeps the readers engaged until the very end.

Salamisim is a well-written novel that is both entertaining and informative. The story's plot is intricate, the characters are well-developed, and the setting is rich in history. Binibining Mia has done an excellent job of weaving together a compelling story that will leave readers wanting more. Salamisim is a must-read for anyone who enjoys historical fiction, romance, and fantasy.

๐‘พ๐’‰๐’š ๐’„๐’‚๐’'๐’• ๐‘ฐ ๐’ƒ๐’† ๐’‚ ๐’•๐’†๐’‚๐’„๐’‰๐’†๐’“?

When I first arrived in the province of Isabela in January of 1992, I found myself feeling homesick and disconnected from my life back in Cebu. Despite the distance, I tried to stay in touch with friends and loved ones through snail mail, eagerly waiting for letters and cards to arrive in my old shoebox. Reading news from Cebu lifted my spirits and helped me feel more connected to home. However, as time passed and technology advanced, snail mail was replaced by email, and my shoebox remained empty.

As I sit here tonight, searching for inspiration, I reach for Paulo Coelho's book The Alchemist. Even though I've read it countless times before, I still find myself drawn to the idea of a personal legend and the search for meaning in life. As I leafed through the pages, I came across one of my favorite quotes from the book: "๐‘‡๐‘œ ๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘–๐‘ง๐‘’ ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘’'๐‘  ๐‘ƒ๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘™ ๐ฟ๐‘’๐‘”๐‘’๐‘›๐‘‘ ๐‘–๐‘  ๐‘Ž ๐‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ ๐‘œ๐‘›'๐‘  ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘™๐‘ฆ ๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘™ ๐‘œ๐‘๐‘™๐‘–๐‘”๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘›. This idea has always resonated with me and has encouraged me to continue pursuing my dreams.
Suddenly, I was struck by a memory of my old shoebox filled with letters and cards from Cebu. I decided to go through them, and I stumbled upon a letter from my college mentor and adviser. He was not only the dean of instruction but also a man of great integrity and a wonderful example for young people like me to follow. I was touched that he had taken the time to write me a letter and keep in touch after I graduated.
The letter itself was simple, full of updates on the school and its graduates. However, the best part of the letter was his advice to me to do well in my current job. This was both reassuring and challenging, and it made me wonder why I couldn't be like those graduates who had pursued noble careers in teaching. What was holding me back from achieving my dreams, and why did it feel like the universe was not conspiring in my favor?
These questions are still a mystery to me, even now. Maybe being a teacher is not my personal legend, or maybe it is. Either way, I am grateful for the letter from my college mentor and the reminder that I can still pursue my dreams and find my personal legend, even if it takes time and effort. As I continue to search for inspiration and meaning in my life, I will remember that all things are connected, and the universe will conspire to help me achieve my goals.

For power and self-preservation

The Harry Potter franchise, written by J.K. Rowling, is beloved by millions around the world. However, there are some fans who are left wondering why the Death Eaters served Lord Voldemort when he promised to enslave or kill them along with everyone else. It's a valid question, and one that can be answered by examining human nature and the power of charisma.
Firstly, it's important to note that Voldemort was an incredibly charismatic and persuasive dark wizard. He was able to gain followers by validating their sense of superiority and promising them luxury, power, and safety from the Muggle/non-pureblood threat. Purebloods, in particular, are afraid of the growing influence of wizards and witches of lesser blood purity, as muggleborns/half-bloods/blood traitors become more acceptable and gain more privileges. This undermines the established power system in which pureblood families enjoy significant advantages which allow them to hoard the majority of the money/power in the wizarding world.
Perpetuating the idea that Muggles and muggle-born wizards are inherently inferior beings is a convenient way to rationalize the restriction of their freedoms, thereby allowing purebloods to maintain their disproportionate share of wealth and influence. Voldemort's ideals would have been highly comforting to these wizards, and they would have loved the reassurance that under Voldemort's regime, purebloods would maintain their status at the top of wizarding society.
This is not unlike the reasons why people have followed other charismatic and/or powerful evil monsters throughout history, from Hitler to Stalin to Saddam to Vladimir Putin, to name just a few recent examples. Most of which reasons boil down to basic game theory and human nature.
Some Death Eaters may have been motivated by a lust for real power. Being "enslaved" by Voldemort while lording it over pretty much everyone else doesn't sound like a bad deal to a LOT of people. This is particularly true of those who make the best lieutenants, such as the Malfoys. Others may have been just generally evil and willing to follow someone who enables their evil inclinations to be expressed, such as the Crabb/Goyle types for a small-time kind of example, or Dolores Umbridge for a larger one. And still, others may have agreed with Voldemort's politics that wizards should rule over Muggles, stronger wizards should rule over weaker ones, such as the Malfoys and many others.
There were also those who were easily swayed by a crowd or a strong charismatic leader, which Tom Riddle most certainly was. Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail is a perfect example of a weak personality that can easily be swayed. Additionally, there were those who followed Voldemort because they hated a specific Muggle/wizard, and the Death Eaters provided both a means of revenge and moral support, such as Snape vs. James Potter. Some Death Eaters may have followed because their family belonged to the Death Eaters, or their best friend was one, such as many Slytherins (e.g., Crabb, Goyle, Draco).
For many, being "enslaved" by Voldemort wasn't much of a deal - in reality, they were just low-level followers of a faction/army, and the alternative was a low-paying wizard job, unemployment, or an unfulfilling life. Voldemort promised to elevate their status in society and give them purpose.
Death Eaters served Lord Voldemort for a variety of reasons, ranging from fear and lust for power to agreeing with his politics and ideologies. Additionally, Voldemort's charisma and persuasive nature played a significant role in gaining followers. While the Death Eaters' actions were unquestionably evil, it's essential to examine the motivations behind their allegiance to Voldemort to better understand human nature.

Families are forever

Families are a big part of God’s plan for our happiness. We are born into a family. We aspire to build strong family relationships. Home can be a place where we feel support, safety, and love. God does not want family ties to end when we die. Because of temples, we can be reunited with our families in the next life.

Family is everything. Family is more than friendship. Family is the only group of people who you have in your life since the day you were born. No matter how far away you might live from your family members - whether it’s 15 minutes, or 15 hours - never lose contact with your family members. Having friends is great; but friendships can end at any time. Although family members may fight at times, they’re still your family. Cherish them all the time. Keep in touch with them.

Even though we might not always see eye to eye. But that’s ok. It’s ok for family members to disagree with each other from time to time. Make sure to always make time for your family. Put family ahead of your friends. Put family ahead of your volunteer work. Put family ahead of your job. Put family ahead of your career. Family will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be there for you when the times are tough - even if they can’t be physically there for you - they will be there in other ways, whether it's a phone call, a text, an email, a surprise card/gift in the mail. Family is forever.

In reality, family is all we really have in this journey called life. Yes, we have friends. Yes, very few of those friends will become like family to the point that you invite them to “family only” gatherings. But the family that you grew up in - that’s your actual family. Keep them in your life. Cherish the moments you spend with them. Don’t take them for granted. Call/text/email them just to say “hi.” Let them know that you miss them and love them. Family is forever.
